TESTIMONIALS
First and foremost I want to extend my deepest appreciation to Anglers Anonymous, to it's staff, volunteers and anyone associated with such a great program!
I'm a US Navy veteran that at the time was going through some challenges in my life with self medicating my PTSD from the lost of my friend while on deployment in 2012. I was in a dark place, alcohol and isolation had become my escape, I couldn't open up to anyone for the fear of being misunderstood. I had pushed the few friends and family away from my life that remained. There came a point in my addiction where I knew I needed help. But my pride and ego wouldn't allow me to accept it. Due to the misconception I had about being labeled or seen as WEAK. When I finally decided to accept the help I had hit rock-bottom. I only had two options check myself into a rehab program through the VA or live in the streets at skid-row. I went with the Domiciliary at the West-LA VA campus. 2 months after checking in I heard about Anglers Anonymous and I signed up for the fishing trip. I didn't know what to expect when I first signed up. But I can honestly say that coming back from that trip my life shifted for the better, it was a blessing in disguise. The bond I created with fellow veterans and staff was very therapeutic. I NO longer feel alone with obstacles along the way. We ALL are going through something. And I will forever be grateful for the opportunity I was given for attending. Since the trip I was able to complete my program. I became a Certified Peer Support Specialist/ Case Manager. I now volunteer helping other veterans that find themselves in challenges through life. I live at The Dream Center (dreamcenter.org) I'm an Administrative Coordinator/ Peer Support Specialist/ Case Manager for the Veterans Floor we house anywhere from 25-30 veterans including women. We offer transitional housing and resources for veterans to empower them in becoming productive members of society. I would love to know more information on how to sign up for a trip to take some of our residents. And just as I found this trip very beneficial I believe with all my heart that others will do so as well. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. Have a bless day.

I've been fishing since I was a kid with my dad. That was definitely right up there with one of the biggest fish I have ever caught. I'm very excited, that was a lot of fun, for sure.

Volunteering my time with Mission FISH is rewarding. Sharing the experience of fishing with others, knowing it makes others feel good, makes my day.
